Metronidazole 20% Powder for Birds (Flagyl) 250g

Metronidazole 20% Powder is a professional-strength antiprotozoal medication formulated to help treat and control Trichomoniasis (Canker), one of the most common protozoal diseases affecting pigeons and many other pet birds. Commonly referred to by the brand name Flagyl, metronidazole has been relied upon by avian veterinarians and pigeon fanciers for decades to combat infections caused by Trichomonas gallinae. This water-soluble powder mixes easily into drinking water, making it ideal for treating individual birds or an entire loft. In addition to canker, metronidazole is also effective against Hexamitiasis and Giardia, two protozoal infections that can affect the digestive tract of birds.

Each gram of powder contains 20% Metronidazole, which is equivalent to 200 mg of metronidazole per gram of powder. Metronidazole belongs to the nitroimidazole class of medications and works by disrupting the DNA of susceptible protozoa and anaerobic bacteria, stopping their growth and eliminating the infection. Birds suffering from canker may show symptoms such as yellow or white plaques in the mouth or throat, difficulty swallowing, weight loss, foul-smelling breath, decreased appetite, or poor racing performance. Early treatment can help prevent these infections from becoming severe and reduce the spread of disease throughout the loft. 

Metronidazole 20% Powder is easy to administer by mixing it into fresh drinking water each day during treatment. Because sick birds may drink less than healthy birds, closely monitor water intake to ensure adequate medication is consumed. Fresh medicated water should be prepared daily and offered as the only source of drinking water during the treatment period. Maintaining a clean loft, providing fresh feed and water, and practicing good biosecurity are important steps in reducing future outbreaks and keeping birds healthy year-round.

Directions for Use
Mix 1 teaspoon (5 grams) per 1 quart (32 oz) of drinking water for 5–7 consecutive days

Prepare fresh medicated water every 24 hours and provide it as the bird's only drinking water during treatment.
