A calm, sturdy duck with striking black-and-white plumage

Black Swedish ducks are a black color variety of the Swedish duck, recognized for their dark plumage and contrasting white chest bib. These medium-sized, dual-purpose ducks offer moderate egg production and good foraging ability.

Black Swedish ducks combine a sturdy build with distinctive black plumage and a white chest bib. They are a color variety of Swedish ducks rather than a separate breed, and their calm disposition makes them an appealing choice for backyard flocks.

Females produce large eggs, most commonly white, with occasional blue or green tinting. Laying varies with age, nutrition, daylight, and individual birds. Some females become broody and may hatch and raise ducklings.

For Central Florida, provide reliable shade, ventilation, and plentiful fresh water during hot weather. Ducks need drinking water deep enough to immerse their bills and clear their nostrils, along with dry bedding and secure nighttime housing. Swimming water offers enrichment but requires regular cleaning.
