Calm, blue-gray ducks with distinctive white bibs
Blue Swedish ducks are a sturdy dual-purpose breed valued for their blue-gray plumage, white bibs, and steady disposition. They offer moderate egg production and enjoy foraging, making them a practical choice for a well-managed backyard flock.
Developed in the historic region of Swedish Pomerania, Swedish ducks are a dual-purpose breed raised for eggs and meat. The blue variety has slate-blue plumage with a contrasting white bib, giving these medium-sized ducks a distinctive appearance.
Females produce roughly 100-180 eggs annually, with output varying by breeding line, diet, daylight, and management. Eggs are primarily white, though some ducks lay pale blue or green-tinted eggs. Their disposition is usually calm, especially with gentle, consistent handling.
For Central Florida, provide dependable shade, ventilation, clean drinking water, and well-drained resting areas. Ducks need water deep enough to dip their entire bills and clean their nostrils; swimming water is beneficial but does not replace secure housing. Blue plumage does not breed true: mating two blue birds can produce blue, black, and splash offspring.
