Gentle giants with golden plumage and feathered feet

Buff Brahmas are large, calm chickens with warm buff plumage, black accents, and feathered legs. This dual-purpose breed lays brown eggs and needs extra attention to shade, ventilation, and dry footing in Central Florida.

Buff Brahmas combine an imposing size with a typically gentle disposition. Their buff bodies, black neck and tail markings, pea combs, and feathered legs give them a distinctive appearance. They are a dual-purpose breed valued for both eggs and meat.

Hens produce a moderate number of large brown eggs and mature more slowly than many lighter laying breeds. First eggs commonly arrive around six to nine months, with timing and production varying by individual, season, and management. Some hens become broody and may pause laying while nesting.

Their dense plumage makes Brahmas well suited to cold weather but less comfortable in hot, humid conditions. In Central Florida, provide generous shade, strong airflow, fresh water, and room to spread out. Dry bedding and well-drained runs help keep their feathered feet clean.

Their calm nature can make them a good choice for beginners and families, though temperament varies and children should be supervised around poultry. Provide roomy housing, wide low roosts, and easy access to nests to accommodate their size.
