ASSORTED COLORS (Black, Red, and White) A gentle bantam with distinctive curled feathers
Frizzle Cochin Bantams pair the Cochin’s rounded shape and feathered legs with feathers that curl outward. These small, gentle chickens are valued mainly as ornamental companions and broody hens rather than high-production egg layers.
Frizzle Cochin Bantams are Cochin Bantams with frizzled plumage, a feather trait rather than a separate breed. Their outward-curling feathers, rounded bodies, and heavily feathered legs give them a distinctive appearance. Multiple plumage colors are possible.
Hens lay small, light-brown eggs at a modest rate, with production varying by individual, season, and broodiness. They frequently become broody, which interrupts laying. Their calm disposition makes them appealing for family flocks, though regular gentle handling helps build trust.
In Central Florida, prioritize shade, ventilation, fresh water, and well-drained housing. Frizzled feathers provide less protection from weather than normal plumage, so these birds need shelter from rain, wind, and cold. Dry bedding and low roosts help keep feathered feet clean and housing accessible.
Choose gentle flockmates, since larger or assertive birds may bully these bantams. For breeding, pair a frizzled bird with a smooth-feathered bird; frizzle-to-frizzle matings can produce offspring with two copies of the trait and fragile, sparse plumage.
