These girls have been laying for a few months (started in June)!

Golden Comets are a popular sex-link laying chicken known for their outstanding egg production, gentle temperament, and easy-going nature. They are an excellent choice for backyard flocks and small farms where dependable production of large brown eggs is a priority. Golden Comets typically begin laying at around 16–20 weeks of age and, under good conditions, can produce approximately 250–300+ large brown eggs per year during their peak laying years.

Golden Comet hens are generally friendly, calm, and easy to handle, making them a good choice for families and first-time chicken owners. They tend to get along well in mixed flocks and are active foragers without being excessively flighty. Mature hens usually weigh around 4–5 pounds and have attractive golden-red to reddish-brown plumage, often with lighter cream or white feathering.

One of the biggest advantages of Golden Comets is that they are sex-linked, meaning males and females can be distinguished by color at hatch when produced from the proper parent cross. This makes them especially desirable for customers wanting female chicks for egg production. Golden Comets are hardy, adaptable birds that perform well in both free-range and properly managed coop environments.
