Gentle, fluffy dual-purpose chickens with distinctive salmon plumage

Salmon Faverolles are gentle, dual-purpose chickens known for their beards, feathered feet, and five toes. Hens lay light brown to pinkish-tinted eggs, and their easygoing nature makes them appealing for family flocks.

Developed in France as a dual-purpose breed, Salmon Faverolles combine a substantial build with a notably gentle temperament. Hens have creamy white and salmon-colored plumage, while roosters show contrasting black, cream, and reddish-brown coloring. Both sexes have beards, muffs, feathered feet, and five toes.

Hens commonly produce 150–200 medium-sized eggs per year, with shells ranging from light brown to a pinkish tint. Laying onset and production vary with breeding line, diet, season, and management. Some hens become broody, but broodiness is not dependable in every bird.

Their docile nature suits beginners and families, although individual birds vary and children should be supervised. They can be pushed around by more assertive breeds, so compatible flockmates and multiple feeding stations are helpful. In Central Florida, prioritize shade, airflow, and fresh water; their dense feathering makes hot, humid weather more challenging. Keep bedding and outdoor footing dry to protect their feathered feet.
