Calm, white-feathered dual-purpose chickens with brown eggs
White Rocks are the white variety of the Plymouth Rock, valued for brown eggs, sturdy bodies, and a calm disposition. These dual-purpose chickens are a practical choice for backyard flocks, with shade and ventilation especially important in Central Florida.
White Rocks, also called White Plymouth Rocks, are an American dual-purpose chicken breed variety with solid white plumage, yellow legs, and a red single comb. Their broad, substantial bodies reflect their traditional use for both eggs and meat.
Hens produce large brown eggs, with many laying roughly 200–280 eggs per year under suitable conditions. First eggs commonly arrive around 20–26 weeks, though strain, season, nutrition, and management affect both timing and production. Some hens become broody, but broodiness varies by line and individual.
White Rocks tend to be calm and manageable, making them suitable for many beginner and family flocks. They can adapt well to a spacious enclosed run and also enjoy foraging. In Central Florida, provide reliable shade, fresh drinking water, and strong coop ventilation; their heavier build makes hot, humid weather more demanding than it is for lighter breeds.
